I am from Singapore, but I do have the answer to this. I have replied on Twitter, but I do not know if u received my reply. The reason is that if women drive and their car breaks down or say, experiences a problem which disallows them to drive on, then they would have to talk to a stranger for help. This stranger most probably would be an unknown male. In order to prevent the two sexes from mingling, women are not allowed to drive.

Well its a culture problem that hopefully will be solved soon. It would not be a big of a deal if Saudi had public transportations, but they don't. But we should keep in mind that in Saudi a lot of the people there have their own drivers.

If she has an accident... And her family wants to be sure shes going where she says she is... She could be going to a party for all they know. And guys would probably follow them... And something could happen to them ... Its a big country and getting lost could seriously be dangerous... Especially if she goes to a bad area... And since she's a girl they worry guys would try to do stuff to her... Even though things like that already happen without cars involved. But it's basically that people are overprotective of females and kind of in a way think they're not as 'bright' and well informed of the dangers as men r.

I wouldn't drive in Saudi even if they let woman drive, people in Saudi can't drive, they are a danger to themselves. My husband comes across an accident everyday on the highway, because people here don't use indicators, check their blind spots before changing lanes, stop dead at robots or stop signs.. No offence but woman from my country drive better than the men in Saudi
