how's christmas celebrated in jamaica

Well, traditionally it is a Christian Holiday where families celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. However, much like the US, Christmas in Jamaica has become commercialised where the true meaning has been lost, lots of parties and events are kept on the holiday in addition to the traditional Church services. We decorate our homes with Christmas trees or light (pepper lights). Most families may have ham, rice and gungo peas, roast beef, bake chicken, salads and a variety of side dishes for dinner. Sorrel (drink) is the main refreshment in addition to alcohol (wines, beer, vodka etc.). Most of us love fruit cake (or Christmas cake as we call it), which is usually baked in large quantities and given to neighbours, families and friends. The atmosphere is usually great as people tend to be kinder during this time of the year. Oh we also have Grand market where sellers stay out late on Christmas Eve selling everything you can think of.
Christmas is for Christians & It is just con that the system use rip all money that you work hard and save through the year. Times ago Christmas in Jamaica was celebrated as a family reunion now people isolate themselves to go party the tradition of Christmas is dieing
